Taiwan-Germany Partnership: PIDC and ZwickRoell Launch Asia-Pacific Composites Lab

The 3rd Plastics Industry Innovation Forum commenced on Wednesday (the 23rd), this year focusing on the sustainable development of the plastics industry. The event featured two forums and a series of technical seminars, showcasing over 100 key technologies and attracting more than 300 professionals from the plastics and petrochemical sectors.

Sustainable Development in Focus as Experts Explore High-Value Future

Cheng-Wen Chiu, Executive Vice President of the Plastics Industry Development Center (PIDC), moderated a panel discussion, sharing that Taiwan has already developed the technical capabilities for composite material R&D. He emphasized the need for cross-industry collaboration to create innovative, high-value products for advanced sectors such as aerospace and national defense. Po-Chi Wang, Director of Technology at Tien-Li, Dr. Hsiu-Cheng Chang of PIDC, and Assistant Professor Jeng-Shyan Wang from National Formosa University's Department of Aircraft Engineering also shared insights on industrial technology development and key talent cultivation.

Strategic Taiwan-Germany Alliance Establishes Asia-Pacific Composites Lab

Dr. Tung-Sheng Pan, General Manager of ZwickRoell Taiwan, a subsidiary of the leading global supplier of materials testing machines, stated that to enhance the testing capabilities of local companies for innovative composites, ZwickRoell has established the "Asia-Pacific Composites Technology Cooperation Laboratory" in partnership with PIDC this year. He also presented key technical perspectives on various composite material testing methods.

Dr. Yao-Kuei Hsiao, General Manager of PIDC, expressed his hope that this strategic partnership will substantially accelerate the innovation and R&D of high-value products in Taiwan, aligning with PIDC's mission to promote innovation in the plastics industry.

Deepening Collaboration with Advanced Equipment to Seize Asia-Pacific Market

With a history of over 160 years in materials testing, Germany-based ZwickRoell is a world-leading supplier. Since first establishing a joint technology lab with ZwickRoell in 2019, PIDC has been dedicated to providing professional technical services and testing equipment that meet international standards.

In response to sustainability trends and the rapid innovation in Taiwan's composite technology, PIDC and ZwickRoell have once again joined forces. Taiwan is now capable of supplying high-value products for emerging applications in green energy, electric vehicles, drones, defense, and aerospace.

The new 250 kN testing machine at the Asia-Pacific lab, equipped with diverse fixtures and intelligent software, will provide reliable, traceable test results for innovative composite products. The lab aims to offer more economical and efficient solutions, positioning Taiwan as a key supplier of fast-growing composite products in the Asia-Pacific region.
