T-PLAS 2019 – A Full-spectrum Showcase of Cutting-edge Technologies for the Region’s Plastics and Rubber Sectors

Thailand’s International Trade Fair for the Plastics and Rubber Industries takes place from 18 – 21 September 2019, embracing the entire supply chain from raw materials to machineries and equipment, to semi-finished and finished products and services for the plastics and rubber industries. The return of the biennial trade fair continues to strengthen its focus on the respective manufacturing sectors in Thailand and the region.

Riding on the success of its previous edition, T-PLAS 2019 will once again develop its six core plastics-related areas of focus: automotive, bioplastics, electrical and electronics, lifestyle, medical and packaging, bringing together international professionals and representatives from the plastics and rubber ecosystem to share considerations for the relevant industries. This edition will also see two inaugural special showcases: the Medical Plastics Zone and Raw Materials Zone.

Owing to Thailand’s abundance of natural resources, production infrastructure and huge regional consumption base, the country accounts for 40% of global rubber production, exporting an estimated US$13 billion per year . Thailand’s is increasingly recognised as the lead plastics-manufacturing base for Southeast Asia with a thriving and dynamic plastics industry characterized by some 5,000 plastics processing and production facilities comprised of converters and fabricators, mould and machine manufacturers, compounders, and petrochemical producers in the country. In fact, Thailand is self-sufficient in the sourcing of many of the raw materials needed for environmentally-friendly products and processing .

With the introduction of Thailand 4.0, the boosted economy will provide a wealth of opportunities for foreign investments and the strengthening of business relationships in the region’s plastics and rubber industries. The implementation of ‘Thailand 4.0’ development plan will span across 10 targeted industries including next-generation automotive, smart electronics, efficient agriculture and biotechnology, automation and robotics, aerospace, as well as bio-energy and bio-chemicals.

Domestically, Thailand’s plastics consumption is scaling up robustly to export figures for packaging, electronics, construction and automotive use. Moreover, the Thai government is also investing heavily in bioplastics development. The country’s plastics industry is poised to gain larger market share of the global plastics market earmarked to reach close to US$700 billion in value by 2020.
Besides a thriving plastics industry, Thailand is also enjoying ample growth in the rubber sector. Thailand’s government-operated Board of Investment have invested more than US$100 million to build a major automotive tire testing facility, increasing rubber consumption exponentially. The nation’s governing body will also invest a further 2.16 billion baht for the construction of a training centre for human resource development for the aviation industry in a bid to promote the aviation sector, as well as to study potential investment projects.

Leveraging on this culmination of regional and global expertise, the four-day staging of T-PLAS will be grounds to a synergistic platform for the two industries of plastics and rubber, brought to life through the widest showcase of innovative machinery across the value chain, as well as new and upgraded tools and auxiliary materials that are curated to demands of the industry to meet procurement and sourcing needs.

In tandem with the much anticipated exhibition is a series of on-site activities including educational workshops, seminars, new product demonstrations and expert-led conferences that aims to present and discuss modern-day challenges and solutions for future-proofing processes for the plastics and rubber industries in the region.

T-PLAS forms part of the Global Gate brand under which Messe Düsseldorf pools its global activities for the plastics and rubber industries. The product portfolio with ten events in total leverages the competence and experience gained by organising the leading international K trade fair in Düsseldorf and by developing successful regional events. The ten trade fairs in total are professional communication platforms serving as door openers and gateways to such promising growth markets as Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, China, India and South East Asia.

Organised by Messe Düsseldorf Asia, the highly anticipated biennial exhibition will provide a mutually beneficial platform for both exhibitors and visitors to share best practices and shape partnerships that aim to inspire cross-border expansion, establish their corporate presence, discover business prospects to expand into Thailand, or for local companies to step into the global arena. Exhibitors and trade attendees alike can leverage on the trade show to explore the booming ASEAN plastics and rubber markets.
